Mike's Tonic
How he make it.
1 red onion, sliced
2 lemons, juice only
1 lemon, sliced
1 jalapeno, sliced
5 cloves garlic, peeled and smashed
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
1/2 cup honey
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
3 cups Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar
1 cup water
Put all this in a jar with a lid. Let it sit room temperature for 7-10 days before drinking. Tonic will last up to a month if you strain the solids out after the 10 days. I can’t promise longer than that, his batches never make it that long because he drinks them. You can use this slop preventatively, like Cousin Mike does, taking a shot a day to promote antiviral wellness. Or you can use it remedially if under the weather. It actually does work.
Why he make it.
My husband is a homeopath. Not like a real deal one, but like homeopath light. He's cured himself of a couple of things with bone broths in his day, and general health and wellness is important to him. Once every few months he goes to the grocery himself, comes home with bags of onions and chops after dark. I caught him this time. Mike's Tonic tastes like rotten Thai food and will scare you when you open your pantry door, but he swears by it. Many of these ingredients have health benefits with which I won't regale you but put simply, this tonic is meant as an antiviral immunity booster. I don't take it every day because it's gross, but when I get sick, he makes me, and I really do get better pretty immediately. That's why he make it.
